Porn leads Poll by NBC as Conan O’brien’s next career move!

NBC has been quite unhappy with the ratings that the Tonight Show and Jay Leno’s prime time show have received ever since they moved Leno to prime time and gave the Tonight Show to Conan O’Brien. They cooked up a plan to return Leno to his old time slot, and to move Conan back 30 minutes. Neither Conan nor Leno is happy with this idea, and they and their fans have been letting NBC know about how unhappy they are.

In a recent monologue, Conan put up a funny list of career options he could pursue, and listed among those was the option to “leave television altogether, and work in a classier business with better people, like hard core porn.”

When a coworker brought this quip to the attention of Q Boyer, the “Minister of Sarcasm” for adult studio Pink Visual’s, Boyer wrote an offer letter to Conan. Once placed on company letterhead and signed by Pink Visual’s Brand and Product Manager Kim Kysar, the letter was sent to members of the Tonight Show’s production team. The letter was also “leaked” to celebrity news site TMZ.com, who ran a story about the offer letter on the morning of the 14th of January. The studio also created a proposed box cover design for a title called “Conan the Bangbarian”

Pink Visual’s offer apparently caught the eye of the Tonight Show producers (probably aided by TMZ’s coverage). Conan mentioned the offer and the Pink Visual brand by name in his opening monologue that same night, and presented a list of potential titles for his first porn movie. After Thursday night’s show, the whole thing took a life of its own on the Internet, as Conan fans by the thousands starting sharing, digging, tweeting and re-tweeting links to stories about Pink Visual’s offer.

In addition to discussing the offer on Thursday night’s show, the Tonight Show has now started an online poll in which people can vote for the career option that Conan should pursue, now that his days apparently are numbered as the host of the Tonight Show.
